Bangkok Trippin' 2017 - Review of Oriental Residence Bangkok, Cafe Claire and Places You Should Go When In BKK!

So, most of you would know that I came back from Bangkok around sometime last week and wow, can I just say how much I missed the city?! I mean, the last time I was there was around 5 years ago and the city definitely has had its changes - it's more commercialised now, I would say!
For those who were following my social media accounts, you would have noticed that our stay in Bangkok was truly magnificent. I've had many friends asking me about my accommodation and here I am today to share with you guys about my stay at Oriental Residence Bangkok! And, can I just say that it was the BEST hotel I've ever stayed in thus far?!
The amenities they had in the room motivated us to ditch the shopping and return back to our hotel earlier every night to enjoy them - you know how difficult that must've for a shopaholic like myself!

- One Bedroom Suite Corner

We had the luxury to enjoy the One Bedroom Suite Corner, which overlooked a panoramic view of the U.S Embassy and the beautiful Bangkok skyline.
There was a work space for us to get our work done at night, a mini living room corner, dining table and a kitchen for us to whip up a simple meal - not that we have to in Bangkok because there's just too many delectable street food to choose from!
But hey, if you want to find a chance to impress your other half with your culinary skills or whip them a hearty breakfast in the morning, now, you've all the resources to do it right in the comforts of your hotel room.
The Living Room

They even have an oven and a full range of cutleries for you to choose from! Damn, why does it feel like I can stay here for a month and never get bored of this lifestyle.
However, do note that only the coffee and tea in the mini bar are complimentary. But you'll have to pay for the other snacks in the mini bar!
Now, moving on to the bedroom!
5. The Bedroom
Other than an iron (you don't even need to request for it!), bathrobes, a safety deposit and plenty of wardrobe space, the bed was also extremely comfy to sleep in! I mean, what else can we expect than comfy sheets when they also have a pillow menu, right? Trust me when I say that it was really a struggle getting out of bed every morning.
And, did anyone else spot the excellent view from our room too?
6. The Bathroom

I used a Lush bath bomb almost every night when I was there! You can't give me such a pretty bathtub and ask me not to soak up any bath bombs, right?
And, yes! No more cramping of toilet spaces when there's a double vanity area! On one end, WJ can use it to brush his teeth in the morning while I get started on my makeup on the other vanity table so that we make the best use of the time there.
7. The Balcony
I mean, how many hotels in BKK allows your to overlook such a beautiful skyline, right? Oriental Residence BKK sits right at the heart of the city and was a lifesaver for us. There are also shuttle bus services every 1 hour from 8am and every 30mins from 10am onwards to the nearest BTS Station!

In the morning, we popped down to Cafe Claire for our complimentary breakfast! There, we were treated to a selection of small bites, cheeses, fruits and danish pastries! There was even an a la carte menu on top of the buffet spread for you to choose the doneness of your egg along with the accompanying side dishes.
Other than breakfast, Cafe Claire also offer other tea time, lunch and dinner options for hotel patrons and guests!

1. Afternoon Tea Selections at Cafe Claire
Other than breakfast, Cafe Claire also serves a wicked afternoon tea selection not for the faint-hearted.
Available daily from 2:30pm - 5pm, the Parisian-themed high tea set is a dream come true for anyone who has dreams of travelling to the city of love, or wants to reminiscence your time in the city. Here, you get a wide selection of both sweet and savoury treats, as well as a tower of scones that is not to be missed - it was possibly the BEST scones I've had so far.
The Voyage à Paris Afternoon Tea set costs just THB 1,500++ for two!
You can also take your pick from the drinks menu that holds a fine selection of both coffee and tea from TWG!
2. Have a drink at the Oriental Bar
Other than small bites, you can also freshen up at the Oriental Bar with a plethora of drinks available on the menu - including signature cocktails that have been inspired by their honoured ambassadors! My favourite drink goes to the Kiwi Wireless which was the perfect drink to wind down the night!
Other promotions at Oriental Bar include:
1. Unlimited free flow drinks at THB 660++ per person
2. Buy 1 Get 1 Free Drink promotion when you choose from their menu of signature cocktails inspired by honoured ambassadors of the hotel.
3. Ease of access to nearby cafes
Since we haven't been to Bangkok for around 5 years (for me) and it was WJ's first time visiting the city, we had our eyes set on visiting certain cafes which also happen to be near the hotel's vicinity! After checking into Oriental Residence Bangkok, we then took a Grab down to The Commons where a cluster of cafes were at. The Grab ride only took us around 10 mins and it costs us around $4 SGD!
And since we were already at The Commons, we HAD to give ROAST a visit. And nope, we were not disappointed.
ROAST offers a menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner options! You can even choose from the lunch specials where you can get a main dish, drink and soup for only $12 SGD - and trust me when I say that the portions were really filling!
4. Close to shopping district
It was also only a 10-min walk away to the human walkway that connected us to the shopping district where Central World Shopping Centre, Big C Supermarket and SIAM Paragon were at! Had a ball of time eating, shopping and exploring the district - not forgetting our virgin dessert experience at After You Cafe. Now we know why everyone keeps giving it hype because IT WAS REALLY THAT GOOD.

We also finally gave Som Tam Tua a try - a restaurant located near Siam Square that is known for their papaya salad and fried chicken - as recommend by our friend. Don't forget to opt for the Thai Sticky Rice instead of the usual steamed rice while you are there!
5. Near to On Lok Yun
For those heading to Bangkok any time soon, I highly urge you to visit On Lok Yun - a breakfast house near the Old Siam Plaza that serves traditional Thai kaya and toasts. It was only a 10-mins ride from ORB and each toast there only costs around $1 SGD!
6. Visit Truelove at Neverland
Okay, Truelove at Neverland is around a 30-mins ride away (minus the jam) but I had to add this in because anyone who visits Bangkok should just visit this husky cafe once in their lives.
For just THB 350, you get a 1-hour access to the husky play pen, 1 complimentary drink and 1 complimentary ice-cream cake / cafe per person!
